If you are considering travelling hundreds of kilometres to inspect a used machine, these checks could save you time, money and a great deal of frustration.<\/span>
\nIn the used machinery market, it is common to find equipment that does not fully match the photos or description once inspected in person. We know this because our customers tell us about their experiences, and because we have experienced it ourselves.<\/span>
\nAt BANERAI, we have travelled nearly 1,000 km to inspect a machine that appeared to be a great opportunity, only to return home without buying it. That is why we recommend carrying out the following checks before setting off.<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Ask for Videos, Not Just Photos<\/b><\/h2>\n

Photos show what the seller wants you to see. Videos show how the machine actually performs.<\/span>
\nRequest a cold-start video and another video showing the machine operating, including hydraulic movements, travel functions, stabilisers and any installed attachments.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Request Detailed Photos<\/b><\/h2>\n

Before travelling, ask for images of the components that provide the most information about the machine’s condition:<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Pins and bushings.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Welds.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Chassis.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Cab.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Hour meter.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Tyres or tracks.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Engine compartment.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    These images often reveal far more than general overview photos.<\/span><\/p>\n

    3. Ask About Service History and Defects<\/b><\/h2>\n

    Hours are important, but they do not tell the whole story.<\/span><\/p>\n

    A machine with proper maintenance may be in better condition than another with fewer hours and an unknown history.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Ask directly:<\/span><\/p>\n

      Request detailed photos of hydraulic cylinders, pumps, hoses and the engine compartment to identify possible leaks.<\/span><\/p>\n

      It is also advisable to request the serial number to verify the documentation and confirm the exact model.<\/span><\/p>\n

      5. Have a Technical Conversation<\/b><\/h2>\n

      Do not focus only on the price.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Ask about wear, recent repairs, tyre condition, hydraulic performance and any known faults. A seller who knows the machine well will usually answer clearly and confidently.<\/span><\/p>\n

      6. Arrange a Video Call If Possible<\/b><\/h2>\n

      A ten-minute video call can save hundreds of kilometres of travel.<\/span><\/p>\n
